'diva eyes'

finally! a make-up-only post - i.e. the point of the blog lol.

i have a book called 'Beautiful Eyes' by Rae Morris.  it has twenty-four different eye looks that i will try to work my way through.  today for work, i did 'diva eyes'.

the face photos are taken after a late night of being locked out of my house and a full day at work, so i hope you can excuse the heinous wrinkles under my eyes!

i think this will be my new 'go-to' format for eyeshadow - do the same thing with any combination of colours and it will look amazing - i have used a pinky-coppery-neutral palette, but you could easily use blues, greens, greys, etc.  the format is: three similar toned shadows in varying shades - first one all over, second one up onto the brow bone, third one on the lid.  but make sure they're all blended nicely (fluffy eyeshadow brush), not just three lines!

this eye is all MAC (apart from mascara because MAC's irritates my eyes), so i'll just say the colours in my descriptions.

- first, i put a wash of Naked Lunch (pale pinky gold) over the lid, brow bone and up under the brow - this is your base.

- then, over the lid and just over the brow bone, with a flat brush, Expensive Pink (darker goldy pink).

- over that, i put Coppering (the name explains the colour.  it's gorgeous.) just on the lid - not as high as the Expensive Pink.  these colours blend perfectly, but you could use a fluffy brush to smooth it out.

- i lined the lower rim of my eye and the outer third of my upper lid with Eye Kohl in Smolder.

- using an angle brush, i put Beauty Marked shadow under my lower lash line on the outer third to deepen the liner.

- using my bullet brush, i put Beauty Marked on the outside corner of my eyelid in a smoky triangle.

- lastly, of course, lots of Diorshow Blackout mascara on upper and lower lashes :)

cheeks just have MAC Bronzer in golden and a little bit of Becca loose shadow in Nymph along the top of the cheekbone.  lips are lined with MAC Cremestick Liner in Summerfruit (orange-y neutral colour), then old Revlon Living Lipstick in Night Shimmer Pink and Napoleon Decade Limited Edition Satin Lips in Christiana.

as i said in a previous post, braids are my staple - these are today's :)

still haven't used my new paintpot in Painterly... psyching myself up... not sure if my nails will fit in the pot though lol speaking of which, at the moment, i have Chanel Blue Satin (black-blue) on my left hand and Chanel Vendetta (black-purple) on my right hand.

scrumptious

i say this word a lot because all i think about is food.  in fact, Jenny called it a 'Laura word' the other day.  i am obsessed with going out for breakfast at the moment.  my very favourites are:

M Bar (anybody around Toorak Village prior to the renovation will call it, 'Manhattan', like i do)
448 Toorak Rd, Toorak
Poached Eggs on amazing multigrain toast is perfection for $9

Sette Bello
cnr Hardware Lane & Little Bourke, Melbourne
Baked Eggs first, and the next time you go, get the toasted brioche with ricotta and honey

Babble Cafe
4 Izett St, Prahran
Vegetarian Breakfast - polenta obsession makes this my favourite.  also, french toast with marscapone cream/cheese (whatever you consider it to be)

quick eye make-up

today i did a very simple eye because i stayed at the boyfriend's house and i don't like to carry around my whole make-up collection plus i don't have as much time in the mornings over there... i'm a bit sad i couldn't do something exciting with my brand new book of shadows because, as you can see, it doesn't fit in my little seven-year-old make-up case :( maybe tomorrow...

i usually have some kind of braid in my hair - this is because i have a fringe that is 'growing out', so it needs to be kept off my face.  today it's a side-part, one-sided braid along my hairline.

materials:
- Chanel Ombre Essentielle in #60 Ivory (all over lid and up to the eyebrow)
- MAC Eye Kohl in Smolder (outer part of the line... looking at it this closely emphasises the need for me to buy MAC Fluidline)
- MAC Mineralise Eye Shadow in Blue Sorcery (inside of the line, applied with a wet angle brush)
- Chanel Le Crayon Kohl in Blanc (lower rim)
- Dior Diorshow Blackout Mascara in #099 (black)

- MAC Bronzer in Golden (on cheeks)
- MAC Cremestick Liner in Summerfruit (all over lips)
- Napoleon DeVine Goddess lipstick in Hara

i am in love with these mugs.. i impulse internet purchased four a couple of weeks ago (New York, Paris, Tokyo and London), but received a reprieve when they were out of stock (phew!).. i have now given my credit cards to John so that i can't use them without telling him - eek!  if only i had my own place and more money so i could justify them!!

of those four cities, London is the only one i haven't visited.  my little sister is living there for a while now though, so i do have a good excuse for going on a british adventure and ticking it off my list.

most recent of my travels was a six-week adventure in the united states of america, finishing off with two weeks in new york.  we stayed in a cute apartment in SoHo, right near all the designer-ness i could ask for :) these are my New York souvenirs.. although i have left out my grey NYPD hoodie from Walgreens in Times Square, which i love.

- my speedy is the amazing birthday gift from my darling mum, from the store on 5th and 57th.

- i have been in love with Chanel Gardenia ever since i first smelled it in Paris two years ago, so i finally bought it at bergdorf goodman, along with the little impulse purchase of Chanel Vendetta nail varnish.  this scent will always remind me of 5th Avenue and Polo Blue (John's NYC aftershave) will always remind me of the Financial District.

- my iPod Touch is the greatest Christmas gift everrrr from JohnJohn :) i love it... sometimes i play bejewelled on it so much that it gives me motion sickness.

hopefully more interesting eye make-up to show tomorrow!! ooooooooh which colours to use ?

underland - alice - oraculum - queen - chessur - white rabbit - wonderland - curiouser - muchness - mushroom - midnight tea party - vorpal - absolem - drink me, eat me - mad hatter -jabberwocky...

hot pink fun

i'm not sure if this looks like eyeshadow or like two healing black eyes...

number one, the lighting is nowhere near as flattering as yesterday (boo!).  number two, the photos are a bit myspace-styling because i was trying to include the gorgeous Tiffany & Co. necklace that was this year's birthday gift from my two favourite girls in the world.

this eye in real life makes blue eyes stand out like crazy, so anyone with blue eyes get involved in hot pink shadow!

i used a combinations of pink lipsticks, blushes and eyeshadows, all of which are nameless because they were discovered in my mum's make-up collection from the eighties... i am aware that make-up goes 'off', but they are hardly used and pretty colours and still work so pfffff to that!

(i will let you know if i end up with a gross eye infection or something from it though)

to do the outline i used a navy maybelline eyeliner, followed by a hot pink chichi lip liner - i am now a big fan of navy + hot pink :)

i did this look last week, except with pink blush rather than my usual MAC-bronzer-in-Golden-as-blush routine.  i'm going to suggest not doing that.  it was far too pink, even with my pink-obsessed standards.

tinkerbell

this is tinkerbell's make-up.  while the colours i had weren't bright enough for an authentic tinkerbell eye, and using kohl pencil rather than cream or liquid liner made the line a bit inaccurate, it actually turned out to be a good smoky green eye (if not a minor eyeliner explosion).  very pink, shimmery pixie cheeks, to which my partner commented, "Your cheeks are very pink." - mission accomplished.

materials:
- Lancome Colour Focus Palette in #105 Renaissance Printaniere (a gift from Mum)
- Chanel Les 4 Ombres in #16 Murano (a gift from my beautiful sister, Bean)
- Becca loose shadow in Nymph
- MAC Eye Kohl in Smolder
- MAC Pencil in Greenglo

i am quite in love with the shapes i can create with my new MAC brushes... Krissy at the pro store in chapel street hooked me up with a fluffy brush (#217), bullet (#219) and angle (#263)... they make an amazing difference - make the investment!  and remember that you need to clean your brushes every few uses so that they don't die a sad death and feel under-appreciated (yes, i believe that everything i own has feelings).

through the looking glass...

things that caused me to think of creating a blog:
- watching julie & julia on the plane from new york to los angeles
- my best friend's blog - monochromefactory.blogspot.com
- a new-found obsession with make-up

what inspired me to actually create one today:
- receiving the coolest eyeshadow palette in the world from the states
- receiving a disney princess steady tray/stable table from my mum

yay for new things (and photos of new things)
